Back in Ancient Greece, it took 1,000 years to be fully developed. It had a rocky landscape that was surrounded by sea. There were over 400 little islands that made up parts of Ancient Greece. If Ancient Greece was still here today, it would be located in Southern Europe. Crete was the biggest island in Ancient Greece. East of Crete lies Rhodes, another island. Rhodes was a rest stop during trading. Did you know that 90% of Greece was and still is mountains? The most mountainous place was in Western Greece. There, there was little farming but there were tons of goats and sheep. Most of the farmland was in Eastern Greece. The soil in Ancient Greece was very dry especially in the summer. Ancient Greece had peninsulas such as the Attica and Peloponnesus peninsulas. The rivers always dry up in the summer but they still had them. The summers were always hot and dry and the winters were always wet and windy.

Hills also provided shelter for Ancient Greece in its times at wars. During trading the citizens used boats to travel from the seperated country. Athens owned many seperate land pieces. The reason for that was because Athens was split up from the water in between. No part of Greece was more than 40 miles from the ocean. Mount Olympus was a large mountain north of Ancient Greece. Important Gods lived on Mount Olympus. The Greek enviroment was very unstable wich caused problems through their government. Athens has a huge acropolis wich is a large hill, it had a structure called the parthenon. Athena lived in the parthenon, she was a very famous Greek Goddess.
